Hawk Haven Stigmata (Apostolos Zanias) is a vocal/art director performer based in Athens and Berlin. His work is influenced by ancient Greece, the death of his loved ones and ‘μοιρολόι’: the traditional mode of funereal singing still practiced by Greek women. Another source is the traditional mode of cabaret but mixed with industrial sounds. His artistic practice distills the art of distraction-destruction, human relationships, the work of Diamanda Galas and how easily the human soul can depart from this world. He embraces the emotional dramatic background of the world while respecting his Greek roots. He was previously known as the frontman of the groups Phoenix Catscratch, Flesh United and Liebchen, which were all the results of his experiments with forms including minimal synth, EBM, electropunk, industrial Techno and even Christian pop. He has participated in many obscure and avant garde festivals around Europe and in many avant-garde theatrical performances. He has also worked on film soundtracks, including the Oscar-nominated Alpes.
